Concrete Boat (CH/BE), 3 screens video installation, 23'56'', 2022

Concrete Boat emerged during an art residency in the village of Hérémence in Switzerland (april 2021). During the residency, Marnie focused on the singular center of the village: its concrete church and the platform it occupies. The concrete plateform is specia because it houses a church, a supermarket and a school within its walls.

The different communties that habit and work in the space never cross one another‘s path. These three different worlds coexist in one body. These social bodies are all in their socia represation far from their intimacy.

Marnie’s will was to articulate and associate these communities between them but also to show their differencies. The employees of the Edelweiss supermarket, the only voice of the art piece are suffocating with their long days under the heavy weight of concrete. In addition the are surveilled with a very intrusive footage. In the same time, the vicary preaches to an empty church and is guiding an invisible world.
His loneliness recalls how important faith is on the concrete boat. Finally the children bring an intense emotion of happiness in this sober environment without caring about the solidity of concrete.

These three distinct worlds are organically linked by concrete. If every world is it’s own identity the three of them combine and form an anthropomorphical body.
